About
Violetta Skripka is a visual artist and photographer based in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. At the heart of her practice is an exploration of corporeality, light, and the concept of “nostalgia for the present.” Rather than merely capturing an object, Violetta seeks to convey the emotional afterglow of a moment through fragmentary body images, the interplay of natural light, and deliberate textural imperfection.
The foundation of her visual language was laid by a background in dance: years of stage experience transformed into a keen focus on body dynamics, capturing movement as an internal state rather than mere anatomical form. In her practice, Violetta frequently turns to the genre of self-portraiture, using her own body as a tool for exploring human fragility. A professional background in journalism and experience interviewing prominent figures, including master photographers, allowed her to develop the skill of “slow observation”, which became the core of her contemplative method.
